Campiglia
Campiglia Marittima is a small medieval hilltop town on the west coast of Tuscany about one hours’ drive south of Pisa. It is just 12 minutes from the sea and is blessed with close proximity to several protected national parks including the unique Etruscan archeological park on the Bay of Baratti (overlooking the island of Elba), the beach park of Rimigliano and Sterpaia as well as the Archeomineral Park of San Silvestro.
Town parking is outside the town walls (wheels on suitcases are recommended!) The small central piazza boasting two bar/cafes is the centre of the town’s social life and nearby the square are all the necessary shops for food, wine and basic provisions.
There are excellent restaurants, a friendly pizzeria and a good ‘take-away’. Also nearby is the thermal spring bath, ‘the Calidario’ for swimming even during the winter months.
Campiglia offers a satisfying break off-season for swimming, cycling, walking and general restorative activities.
